Earthwatch Lecture: Farming and Sustainable Environments (Event)

With our planet’s ever increasing human population the need and want of increasing food supplies has been an ongoing theme. Our food system, which contains within it the tension between our appetites for food and our management of finite and fragile ecosystem resources, has not been exemplary. As our population continues to swell choices between ecological sustainability and industrialization of food production are being forced, presenting a conflict of values as much as one of methods.

In this upcoming Earthwatch Lecture, “Farming and Sustainable Environments”, Prof Ken Norris, Dr Mark Chandler and Julia Bradbury will discourse the “conflicting urgencies of intensifying agriculture and conserving ecosystems”.  The lecture will be hosted by the Royal Geographical Society on 17 March 2010.

More information regarding the event and how to book a place can be found here.
